Calico Patch

Changing seasons is but one of the many wonderful aspects of living in the Eastern Sierra.  I'm sure that I am not alone in celebrating this spectacular time of year...the beautiful and always highly anticipated season of Fall.  We will soon have those gorgeous autumnal colors around us, warm glowing colors that hopefully will inspire and energize many of us to create seasonal projects for our homes, or gifts for those we love.

As we move into October, The Calico Quilters will be making baby stockings and planning our calendar for 2009.  I believe we will have many exciting workshops, round robins, and ideas to continue the flow of those creative juices next year!  Remember also, our festive and enjoyable Harvest Soup Potluck on October 30th, at 6:30 pm.

I want to thank all of you who continue to attend our monthly meetings, those who bring their beautiful quilts to share, and members who support our guild projects.   Each of you contribute to our community service, as well as our growth and knowledge, and you do it with friendship and inspiration.

    Happy Stitching,

  Vivian

UFO Challenge

The Challenge continues …. both in new UFOs and in completed projects.

Guidelines:

UFOs had to be started before January of 2007.

A UFO is a project that is not finish.  It can be a top, but the top can not be layered or sandwiched in any way.  No quilting done on the project.  It must be started - in strips, pieces or half way pieced, etc.

It can be, other than stated above, in any step of progress.

Bring the UFO to a Day Lilies or Nite Owl Meeting.  Then once it is complete.  Bring it back to one of the meetings, and you will be entered into our quarterly drawing.  Our August drawing was won by Vivian, our coffee loving president was thrilled to win a gift card from Starbucks.  CONGRATS!!!

So pull out those boxes, bags, or any containers you have been stashing your UFOs and get them done, and have a chance at the next drawing.

Show and Tell

The Day Lilies showed off their latest creations.
Sharon Thompson made a Charm Square table runner using fabrics with butterflies and dragonflies. Also showed us a string pieced quilt top that was given to her. The hand pieced quilt top still had some reminants of newspaper on the back. Marge Walker was the lucky recipient of this quilt top. I'm sure Marge will have it hand quilted in no time!
Nela wowed us with her desert themed quilt. She used some of the Ugly Challenge fabric in the background and she had different desert animals romping across the quilt.
Marilee showed us a bright pink quillo that was made at one of the Big Pine Crafty Ladies workshops. She also had made a couple of Turtle Pillows, one was pink with butterflies on a yellow background and the other was Bob the Builder in blues and yellows.
Betty McCloud presented us with a cross stitched bunnies that took us back to the 1970's. Betty colored in the bunnies so they would show up on the white background and used brown and tan calico's from her stash to set off the bunny squares.
Marge Walker showed off a Q.O.V. Baby quilt.
Way to go ladies! You out did yourselves again!

The quilt was at the Fairgrounds this weekend.  Sharing the spotlight with some gorgeous old cars at the FALL COLORS CAR SHOW.
