The Calico Patch

As we approach the Thanksgiving Season, I am hopeful that all of you will take the time to give thanks for the many blessings that surround you.  As a member of Calico Quilters, I am thankful for each of you as guild members.  You have an important role in the success of our guild, and your continuing interest in our meetings, workshops and round robins creates the wonderful opportunity for new and continuing friendships. You demonstrate how our shared love of quilting can bring together so many wonderful women in our community!  To each of you, I wish the blessings of friendship and the joys of continued accomplishments.

    Happy Stitching,

Show and Tell

Georgia showed off her Frogs & Turtle baby quilt. It was just darling.
Margi received from a friend a beautiful Grandmother's Flower Garden. What a wonderful friend! The hexagons are really small and she wants to combine them with her larger flower garden blocks. Any ideas on how that can be done, please let Margi know.
Judy shared her beautiful Christmas ornament from the Big Pine Ladies workshop and a cute quillo that has a school theme. Very bright!
Marge made a Sunbonnet Sue and Sam panel quilt that was given as a "Little Quilt" for the Books and Barnyard. Too cute! She also showed off her quillo done in a floral print on a black background. Very stunning!
Vivian made two QOV quilts, one was done in flannel with dark mauves and greens and the other was a railfence pattern in cranberry and greens. Both quilts were just beautiful. Good job ladies as always!

Books & Barnyard

Books & Barnyard - May 2, 2009

I've been getting alot of small stuffed animals! I haven't even counted them yet, but I know there are lots and lots of them. Along with stuffed animals we'll need lot of "Little Quilts" to go along with them. I have about 5 so far. The quilts should be no smaller than 18x24 and no larger than 36x45(the size of a yard of fabric). A BIG thanks to all that have contributed stuffed animals and the Little Quilts.

A Christmas Party for All

All Day Lilies, Nite Owls, Baltimore Beauties, Big Pine Crafty Ladies, Rozella's KnitWits and anyone else who wishes to come are invited to our daytime Christmas Party at Whiskey Creek. We'll order off the menu, pay Dutch Treat and arm wrestle over the ornament exchange.

Wed, Dec 10, 11:30am Whiskey Creek in Fireside room, bring a Holiday ornament to exchange.

New Round Robins

What a great and fun round of Round Robins in 2008,

a lot of great work and thought going into them.  Thank you Desi for keeping them all straight and moving along.  I will try my best to fill you shoes next year

(but don't relax too much, I may need you)

So Vivian, Desi and I met and brainstormed for ideas for 2009.  And below is a brief list.  Cheater sheets were passed out in each meeting giving more description for each one, if you would like one .. just email me and I will get one to you.  The sign up sheets were passed around for the 1st time at the Day Lilies and the Nite Owls, and we already have a few signatures.  Please remember to only sign up for those you really want to do, don't feel pressured to do more than you can do and still have fun with.  I will have the sign up sheets at the Nov meetings, you will receive your lists at the January meeting and all round robins will begin in February.  If you see something you want to sign up for and can not make the meeting, just email and let me know.  The number of round robins we will have will depend on the number of sign ups we get for each one.

*Paper Pieced Pizza Box - all blocks must be paper pieced, quilter picks a theme

*Young at Heart - quilter picks a theme and block size.  All blocks are colored blocks with crayons.

*Traditional Round Robin

*Crazy Quilt Block - begins with a 28 to 20” center block

*Surprise Round Robin - this round robin is not revealed at each meeting.  It is a surprise until the end of all the rounds.  Quilter can choose to have a traditional round robin or a stripper style (these are no wider than 42”)

*Stripper Round Robin - quilter picks theme/colors, each strip can be no wider than 42”

4-Patch Variation Exchange

Same as the 9-patch variation exchange.  all blocks are 12-1/2 unfinished, this year we are asking for the quilter to put a note with the name of the block attached to the block.

Lots of choices, go over them, and make you choices.

Opportunity Quilt

Peddling in theSierras is scheduled to be at the fairgrounds for the Christmas Fest Craft Show.  As we are no longer able to display the quilt at DMV, I would like to take just a second to send a big THANK YOU to KATIE, MERCY and VASIE.  For all their work in the past with our quilts there, it was a big contribution to the guild and gave our quilts lots of exposure that we would not have normally had.

Thank you to all that gave me some suggestions as to where we can hang the quilt in the future.  I will follow up and keep you informed.  I will be handing out member tickets for the op quilt to sell at the next meetings, we ask you to sell what you can..every ticket sold is another opportunity to win.
