Bear Necessities

The Bear Necessities ~ OK so I was trying to come up with a cute name for my President's Message, and I asked Meagan and this is what I got. I like it. This has been a full month for me, first we had the Brainstorming Meetings where we collected a whole bunch of great ideas. Then our Day Lilies and Nite Owl Meetings where I shared it all again. So many great things in the making. Below is a brief summary of it all with names of people who have offered to handle certain things and any specific things you need to know now (more as time gets closer for certain things):

  • White Mountain Station Retreat - tentatively set for Sept 7 to 9, 2007. Marty Voght is the Chairperson.
  • Ricky Tims, Alex Anderson etc. Conference in March, 2007. Margaret Phelps is the Chairperson.
  • Inventory Help at Law's Museum. Laurie Morrow is Chairperson/Contact person for the Guild.
  • Making a raffle quilt for Law's Museum
  • Mystery Quilt tentatively planned for April 13 and 14, 2007. Nela Dunaway and Marty Voght are chairpersons.
  • African Folklore Embroidery - possible lecture and/or workshop. Sally DePerro is the Chairperson.

  • Birthday Club - beginning in January, 2007. Sign-ups until November meetings. Call Margi for details.

Looks like many fun things coming up and in the planning. Remember, do not overwhelm yourselves, join in those things that you really want to and do not feel as though you have to do it all. I am always open to suggestions and ideas. Give me a call or e-mail me at bearma@usamedia.tv

Just a reminder that the Board Meeting will be on October 31, Tuesday, 9:30 am at the Methodist Church before the regular guild meeting, if you need something put on the Agenda, plan to attend the Board Meeting. Remember you can never have too much fabric or too many bears,

President, Calico Quilters

Guys and Dolls Show

Start thinking about those Dolly, Kitty and Doggy quilts!

As part of the March 10th Guys and Dolls quilt show we will have our Dolly/Kitty/Doggy quilt sale and we are looking for donations. I'll be collecting the quilts at the night-owls meeting, or you can give them to Margi at the day meeting. The deadline for turning in quilts will be February 1st, 2007. There will be 2 types of quilts for sale, the Dolly quilts, suggested size is 18 x 24 or slightly larger, and the Kitty and Doggy quilts which can be 24x24 or slightly larger. Quilts will be sold for $5.00 and proceeds will go towards our annual scholarships. I have several cat and dog print fabrics that I will bring to future meetings to share with those interested in making these quilts. Thanks to Marge Walker for being the first to make adorable Sunbonnet Sue and Sam quilts for the Dolly quilt sale! Laurie Morrow

Mini Raffle Items Needed too!

Of course we will have the ever popular mini raffle at the show also. I need everyone to think about making an item for the table. Think of items that children and pet owners would have fun trying to win. I'll be collecting items until February 1st. Jan Dunaway

Quilts of Valor

I can not even begin to express how proud I am to be part of a Guild that has such a generous heart. I am so pleased to know that we will continue to make QOV and baby quilts. The numbers of the wounded soldiers are staggering, we all know them. We hear them on the news and read them in the paper. Our work is cut out for us. Our soldiers need our comfort and support. And what a way to show this support in our talent, and we are able to do all this in a quilt. We will be having a Sew-In Day/Potluck next year. As well we have added a red, white and blue Friendship star to each month of our monthly exchanges, just another way to get quilts made for our wounded. Please remember that Quilting in the Sierras have generously offer us 20% off fabric purchased to make a QOV, and then when you bring it back to me, QITS will give you a 10% discount on a fabric purchase as a thank you. And also the classroom is available if you would like to sit and sew, and layer a quilt. Do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions, Margi 873-6147 And again thank you.

Margaret send this this site and I think it is worth a moment of our time. And she said I could ass it on to you. Please check it out......Please remember to pray for our Military men and women all over the world, every day! Thanks to our Soldiers!!!

If you go to this web site, www.letssaythanks.com , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them..."

I did and it only takes a minute of your time to tell someone you are thinking and praying for them.

Round Robins

The Round Robins are looking fantastic! We have alot of very talented ladies in our guild. Keep up the great work! Just a reminder though, if you can't be at the meeting, please make arrangements to have your Round Robin's passed by someone else, or you can bring them to Ben Franklin's and I would be more than happy to pass them along. Just put my name on the outside and on the inside who it goes to next. This will help to keep the ball rolling smoothly along! Thanks! Desi

Something to make you smile
When I read this I knew I had to share it with all
the Calico Quilters. Margi

"Behind the painted picket gate.
There lived a quilter known as Kate.
She had one son, a boy named John;
One daughter, who she doted on.
She had one husband and one house.
One pup, one cat, one little mouse…
And 14,287 pieces of fabric!!!"
Smile!!
