Quilt Show News

We had a raffle quilt ticket sale tie between Jo Bacon, Marilee Knight, Betty McCloud, Marge Walker and Virginia Cannon. We did a tie breaker draw and Marilee won to right to take Miss Raggedy home for the month of October. Remember, who ever sales the most tickets individually by the Quilt Show will get to take her home for keeps. If you need more tickets get in touch with Margi Duffy.

Also, Nela and I are making a special prize for the top winner of the Hand Bag Challenge. Yes, it is a quilt. You'll get to see it sometime in the future. I'm glad to hear that some of you have begun working on your hand bag!

Your chance to sign up to be a Chairman on the 2006 Quilt Show Committee will start at the October Nite Owls meeting and continue until all Chairs are filled. If you would like to know more about the Committee, give me a call. The first Committee meeting will be held mid January 2006.

And as always, if you see something really cool at a quilt show, or have an idea to share, just let me or Margi Duffy know about it.

Quilts for Soldiers

This month I have collected 2 baby quilts....thank you.....the moms and babies will be thrilled. As well I wanted to remind you all about the block project we are doing. I passed out blue fabric that needs to be the center of a star block. The quilt if completed on time will be sent to the quilting magazine by Fons and Porter by December 1st, and will be included in their magazine. It is a great motivator. The star blocks need to be 12-1/2", and the center block needs to be the blue I have (do not hesitate to call for fabric) and the other colors in the block that you will add are red and white. Blocks are due no later than the October meeting. As well there are many other ways to be involved in this project:

*make a draw-string bag (call me for pattern)
*make a baby quilt for Camp Pendleton
*make a specific female quilt for a center that specializes in injured female soldier and female blind soldiers
*make a masculine quilt for a male soldier
*make 12-1/2" red, white and blue blocks
*join in in the special Fons and Porter magazine quilt *make a monetary donation to help cover postage of quilts

This is a most worthy project, remember that we are comforting our soldiers and letting them know that they are thought of and that we are grateful....no matter what our political stands are.

Don't forget that it is another set of numbers which are driving force of this project: Fatalities and Wounded from OIE/OEF (Iraq/Afghanistan). the Iraq fatalities: 1,944 from 1,938 two days ago and 240 for Afghanistan. Official wounded near 15,000. I close with an e-mail I rec'd from a Chaplain in Landstuhl. This is why we do what we do.

"I tell people all the time that there is incredible beauty in the midst of all the tragedy of war. That beauty extends all the way from the heroic work of combat medics, to the incredible expressions of kindness by all who provide these quilts. Our soldiers feel so blessed and cared for here, and it is an enormous privilege and blessing for us to be able to present to them these very tangible expressions of love and support. I only wish you could see their faces and hear their responses. Thank you and God Bless you so very much."

Thank you, please do not hesitate to call me with questions or suggestions. Margi Duffy 873-6147
