Bear Necessities

A great time was had by all at our Harvest Soup Part, not only were the soups great, but the breads and desserts ad hot apple cider were all wonderful. Just as a reminder, I have not received any of those great recipes that I asked for at the party. Several people have asked me, and I keep hoping I will hear from some of you. Come on share your secret recipe, this is such a great time for soups and to have some new ones would be perfect. Thank you to all who bought in food, and helped with the clean up. Thank you Desi for your hard work, it does not go unnoticed. And all the stripers, and crazy quilt squares are gorgeous, I am constantly blown away by how much talent and creativity is in our Guild.

I have seen many of the stockings that have been given to Georgia for the Hospital and they are so much fun, keep up the good work, the hospital is expecting lots of babies this year. We want to make sure that every baby gets a stocking. There are many things starting up at the beginning of the year, so ready the newsletter closely.

Remember do not be overwhelmed, pick only those things that you really want to participate in. If you have any ideas for future, workshops please remember to see Desi and if you have any ideas for future speakers or teacher, give me a call.

Allow me to wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving, I have many things in my life that the Lord has blessed me with, among them is serving you as President. Thank you. Remember you can never have too much fabric or too many bears, President, Calico Quilters, Margi Duffy

Baltimore Beauties

Open Invitation
to
Baltimore Beauties Christmas Party
Wed, Dec 6th, 11:30am, Whiskey Creek

Our traditional BBs Christmas Party will be held again in the Fireside Room at the Whiskey Creek Restaurant with any quilter who would like to join in for lunch and an ornament exchange.

The Baltimore Beauties is an open group that meets once a month during the year in each others homes, but our Christmas Party is "special", so each Christmas we go to The Creek, order off the menu (Dutch Treat) and have a lively exchange of holiday ornaments or small decorations that each has brought and wrapped.

We have reserved the room the 11:30 am Wednesday, December 6, so please come and join us for our last daytime get together before the evening Guild Potluck the following week.

Quilts of Valor

I know that the holidays are here and everyone is busy, just take a moment to remember our soldiers so far from home. It must be difficult during this time of the year and especially those that have been injured. I always send out our quilts promptly, so keep that in mind, and perhaps finish one of those QOV that you have started. Lets try and touch a few of our soldiers this Christmas Season and remind him that we are thinking of them.

Quilt Store Visits

Last month my husband and I went to Las Vegas. He had a class to attend and I went shopping! Boy, did I go shopping!

Quiltique in Henderson, NV. This store is really nice. It's well lit with a wonderful assortment of bright fabrics. The ladies that work at Quiltique are wonderful and are very helpful. This was my second trip to this store and I will definitely go back time and again. They have a website to check out. It's www.quiltique.com.

Nancy's Quilt Shop, Las Vegas, NV I have been to this shop quite a number of times. Nancy has a wonderful collection of Japanese prints. They had just gotten in the Aboriginal prints. What a wonderful line of fabric! I only got one of the aboriginal prints though. I was already over my budget for this store! Is there such a thing as a budget when it comes to fabric? Their website is at www.nancysquiltshop.com.

Fabric Boutique, Las Vegas, NV This was a new quilt store I found in Vegas. It wasn't too far from Nancy's Quilt Shop. The shop was pretty good size with lots of fabrics to choose from. They had a sale going for the month of October. Any fabric that was brown or with brown in it was 20% off. Of course I took full advantage of the sale! This shop had more landscapes and novelty prints. There website is www.fabricboutique.com

I'm looking forward to visiting all these stores again next October. I guess I better start saving my money! Desi

Our 2007 quilter's retreat will be Sept. 7 - 9, 2007, at Crooked Creek Station of White Mountain Research Station. Crooked Creek is a rustic lodge located at 10,000 ft. elevation in the White Mountains. We will have possession of the second floor classroom from Friday to Sunday, no need to pack up your rotary cutters and machines. Housing dorm style, and meals from Friday night to Sunday noon, all for about $180 per person.

When we've done this before, we've always had lots of fun. It's a great weekend for beginners, because there are plenty of experienced "teachers" working beside you. Marty
