Happy New Year Calico Quilters!

We're off to an ambitious start with the Toy and Doll Show just 30 days away. I've just made a dolly quilt and dog mat and coat. I hope you're inspired to get busy too now that we see how soon we'll be providing a new look to the "Doll Show"! Think quilt, cookies and mini raffle items. Also tell all your young friends and neighbors so we'll have a good turn out.

An open planning meeting for all interested quilt guild members will be held Tuesday, January 18th at 6:30pm at the hospital. Bring your ideas, requests, etc. We'll plan 2005.

Donations still needed!

We need handmade items for the Mini Raffle. Dolly quilts. Pillows, blankets, coats and collars for doggies.. Margaret Phelps has a doggie coat pattern available. Remeber you can also donate $5.00 for a special basket for the mini-raffle. Oh, and get those yummy cookie recipes out to, 'cause guess what, we need loads of homemade cookies too.

Set up will be February 4th, Friday, at the Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall starting at 3 pm.

I just wanted to thank all of you who have signed up to make things for our mini-raffle. So far I have 12 sign-ups and I have collected $15 for the special basket. And of course we could use lots more. Lets make this the best mini-raffle ever. If by chance, you have forgotten what you have signed up for...I am the keeper of the sign up sheets for now, so give me a call and I will let you know. Margi Duffy

I just received a wonderful thank you letter from Walter Reed Hospital, the Chap. there is very grateful for the quilts..here is a excerpt from his letter (I include this because you need you know how grateful he is and sometimes I do not get to see all of you at the meetings)

"Thank you for the quilts I received today, I would like to thank the Guild for the thoughtful quilts you send to our soldiers at Walker Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC..... I cannot adequately express in words how gratefully our soldiers receive the gifts of your time and kindness as they undergo such difficult times in their lives/ It is a blessing to be a small part of such a caring and compassionate act of service..... Please accept the thanks of a hospital chaplain who sees tragedy every day but experiences a blessing himself the day your special gifts are distributed.

What a honor to be part of something so special. Thank you all for your generosity. Never think that it is a small thing because by the Chaplain's words above it is NOT. So keep those quilts coming. Ok, the time is drawing near for our drawing at the Toy and Doll Show on February 5th. We just want to remind you to sell, sell, sell those tickets. If you need more before any of the meetings we can deliver them to you, otherwise I will try to be at the classes and the meetings with tickets. (that is unless there is too much snow...this East Los Angeles girl doesn't know how to drive in it but loves to look at it)
