Bear Necessities

Happy Valentine to all of you Calico Quilters. I want to share some "heart" felt thanks and what better time than Valentine.

~I want to personally thank everyone on my Board. You all have helped me so much these first few months of me holding office and you have answered countless questions with much patience…..and have shown so much support and thank you for all you new chair people who have taken up the task of new jobs when I know you own life is busy.

~Thank you to Wildrose Lane Quilting (our Nela and Jan) for their generosity in quilting our QOV's and Baby quilts.

~Thank you to all of you who stay a little longer after meetings to help clean up.

~Thank you to all you Calico Quilters who made the meeting so much fun, and are so supportive to all the members, whenever you share ohh's and ahh's during show and tell time, you are so encouraging, I so look forward to both meeting because of who all of you are.

Guys & Dolls Show

The doll show is getting closer. Only a month to go! Boy, time sure flies!

Jan did the fliers and they will be going to the businesses this weekend by Kay's girls. Carole will be taking them around to the local schools and the preschool, too. Marilee took a couple of the fliers to Big Pine, where they will be put up at the school and the Library. I'm going to take some to Round Valley School.

The set-up for the doll show will be Friday, March 9th at 3:00pm. It should only take 2 to 3 hours. I'll need help picking up the racks, cans, poles and sandwich board at Ruth's house. I have a small truck, but I'll definitely need another large truck or two. I'll let everyone know what time at the next day and night meetings. Still need to find out from Ruth what time would be good for all of us to converge on her house!

We have four wonderful make and take tables. There will treasure chests to decorate, bags for their goodies, postcards to create and gingerbread shapes to lace. Margaret is looking for character fabrics for her postcards. I'll definitely be looking through my craft supplies for anything that will go with the treasure chests, bags and postcards.

Marge will be having performance puppets. She will be raffling off a pair of puppets each hour. These puppets are really cute! The kids are going to have great fun with the puppets.

We have some really nice collections lined up. If anyone would still like to show their collections, I have some space available. Just let me know.

Remember that all dolly/dog/cat quilts and mini raffle items are due to Laurie and Jan on March 1st. Thank you to all for your help and showing your collections! This is going to be a great show! ~Desi

Doll, Dog and Kitty Quilts: The quilts are starting to come in for the Guys and Dolls Toy show. But we still need more! Thanks to all that have participated so far. We will be collecting them until March 1st. You can bring them to a guild meeting or drop them off at Ben Franklin's or Quilting in the Sierra! ~Laurie

Quilts of Valor

Just a reminder that we will be having a Quilt of Valor DVD night on March 15th at Highlands 6:30 pm. Snacks will be provided. Come out, see QOV's awarded to our soldiers in the DVD, it will touch your heart, and remind you why we do this so faithfully and for as long as it takes. To date we as a guild have awarded 44 quilts of valor and 89 baby quilts. Also, 12 drawstring bags. Remember our soldiers deserve the very best we can give so that when they receive their QOV'S they are reminded that we remember, and that we support them. I will be placing a small heart shaped charm on each quilt that says, "Made with Love". If you want to be more involved and make Friendship Stars for future quilts, please give me a call and I will make sure you received the pattern we are using. We already have about 15 blocks ~ Off to a wonderful start. If you have any questions about QOV's please contact me. I hope to see lots of you at the DVD night, and for all the soldiers, allow me to thank you and applaud your generosity. ~Margi.

Day Lilies

I had such a great time at the February Day Lilies meeting. It was the first time we met at Highlands during the day and it was so nice. The long tables are roomy and the room is so big. My Meagan was in town and was able to attend the meeting and "watch her mom in action" as she puts it. She walked in with goodies and Desi made coffee (thank you Desi).

The Day Lilies are keeping busy, this month Marge Walker was the grand winner of 26, yes, I said 26 blue and white 9-patches. Marge also received some of her Friendship Stars - all in red, white, and blue. Remember if you are unable to attend either of our meetings, please bring your Friendship Stars to Quilting in the Sierras. I will also have a pigma pen in my guild box for anyone who forgot to sign any of their blocks that were suppose to be signed. Next moth's blocks will be for Courtney, Meagan, and QOV's.

Betty McCloud gave out our next block exchange, and it is a gorgeous May Basket full of flowers, she also gave us all the background fabric. In addition, the winner is going to receive other finishing fabrics from Betty. Thank you Betty, I will have my fingers crossed for this one. Our fabric exchange this month picked by Betty: 8-1/2 squares of fabrics in Amish bright colors. ~Margi.

Baltimore Beauties

The BALTIMORE BEAUTIES met at Shelly Dormire's home in Chalfant for our first get together of 2007 with a total of 16 quilters, every chair and couch was occupied that day. It was so nice to see everyone again after the busy holidays and now we're back on our new schedule of 2nd Wed's of the month. We will meet as usual at 10:00am, brown bag in tow (unless otherwise noted) and our lovely hostesses will amaze us with their culinary expertise of creating delicately delicious desserts. See you in a week:
Feb 14, Mary Gess 337 E Pine, Bis, 872-9843.
Mar 14 Margaret Phelps, 145 Coyote Rd, Chalfant, 872-6608
Apr 11 Sharon Thompson 4813 Alison, Paradise, 387-2808 ***Bring salads or breads

~Betty

Historian Thank You

I would like to give a huge thank you to Betty McCloud for the guild info that she gave to me in November or December (I can't remember). She gave me two binders full of old Quilt Talks and newspaper clippings and a few other things. I had fun reading everything. This will help a lot with the scrapbooks. I would also like to remind all of you ladies that if they have any information regarding the history of the guild, I would love to have a copy of it. If you have any questions, please call me at 920-1552 or e-mail me at daddygirl13@yahoo.com. Thank you. ~ Courtney

Embellished Block Exchange

There will be no brown bag exchange this year…..instead consider this. It was so much fun at the Christmas Party we are going to try it again. Guidelines: Any block, any size, any embellishments, any holiday or non-holiday theme….let your imagination go and enjoy making this block. We will have an exchange of blocks at the picnic in July this year. So you have time to plan. ~Margi.

QOV Scrap Adoption

Every quilter has that one box or drawer that is overloaded with leftovers of past quilts and you just don't know what to do with the scraps. Instead of throwing them away, if there is any way you can save them, I will adopt them. I am planning to make quite a few QOVs with nothing but scraps. I know that I can kick myself to make quilts faster if I know there are going to our soldiers.

The number of injured is incredible. A few people I knew from school, including a few friends, have served in Iraq. One of my friends was injured pretty bad and I just want to thank all the soldiers in a way that they'll be able to remember that someone was thinking of them for many years to come.

I only ask that the scraps be no less than 1 1/2" in diameter, enough that I can have a 1/4" on each side and still have fabric showing in the finished quilt. Thank you so much. If you have any questions, please call me at 920-1552. ~ Courtney

2007 Membership Dues

Just a friendly reminder that you have until March 31st to pay the 2007 dues of $15.00. You can send your check to P.O. Box 802, Bishop, CA 93515, or pay by cash or check at the next guild meeting. Checks can be given to Margi Duffy, Judy Speed or myself, Laurie Morrow. Thanks!

Birthdays

We had a great start with the Birthday Club, Sally DePerro had Nela's name and showered her with gifts. All of the rest of us want to send birthday hugs to Nela too. As well as all the rest of our February and March birthday quilters. ~Margi.
