Quilt Show News

If you can believe it, the quilt show is only 3.5 months away. We need handmade items for the Mini-Raffle. They can be anything as long as they are handmade. Desi is the chair for the mini-raffle and is collecting the items. She can also answer any questions you might have.

If you have a floral quilt sitting around unfinished, you might want to get it out. The committee decided to add a special ribbon for best show theme quilt. Our theme is "Springtime Garden".

The prize for the embellished handbag challenge winner was unveiled at the guild meetings. It is a quilt made by Nela and quilted by me. I'll have a picture in the next Quiltalk. Again, the criteria for the challenge is: 1. Bag can be made of anything. 2. Must be able to hold items. 3. Must have a handle of some sort. 4. Must be embellished. 5. Must interpret the quilt show theme. The emphasis is on the embellishment.

Laurie Morrow sold the most raffle quilt tickets so got to take home the pretty Raggedy Ann doll for February . And a special thank you to Mercy and her ticket selling team at the DMV. They have sold over $700 worth of tickets so far!

It would be so much appreciated if we get your entry forms early. I still remember the "5 days before the entry deadline, not enough quilts" panic attack from 2004. If you need an entry form, you can now download and print it, just click the link you see at the end of this section. Remember to include a photo. And please tell us about your quilt in the section provided. I think everyone really enjoys reading about what the quilt makers write about their quilts. Margi Duffy is collecting the entry forms.

Please join us in making decorations for the quilt show. To workshops have been setup. This first is Feb 23, Thursday at Highlands. Nela is going to have us make bugs and butterflies. And the second is Feb 27 at Quilting in the Sierras at 6:15pm to make tissuepaper flowers.

2006 Quilt Show Entry Form

Thank You from Jo Bacon

I want to extend a special thank you to all the Calico Quilters members who have provided classes over the last two years. I would never have known how to make the blocks in this quilt (given to my Mom Christmas 2005) without your time and effort to teach all of these techniques.

Also, a thank you to the members of my pizza box group, for your blocks that are included around the border. Again, this quilt would not have been made without you!

I'm just sorry that weather kept me from bringing this to the Christmas Party. And now, I can't get it away from my Mom!

~Jo

Baltimore Beauties

1st Wednesday of the month, 10:00am
Brown Bag Lunch, Desert and Coffee provided

The Calico Quilters would like to introduce you to the Baltimore Beauties, a group of quilters that originally started to meet about 15 years ago in each other's homes to make Baltimore Album type of quilts. After everyone tried appliqueing them, many gave up but just continued to come every month anyway since they all enjoyed each others company.

The group started out meeting on the first Wednesday of each month, but occasionally scheduling would be difficult so an exception would be made to accommodate the situation, so it was decided that there would be no by-laws, no minutes, no treasurer's report (because we collected no money for anything), no attendance was taken, but if you missed a couple of times, someone would call to see if you and your family were OK. It was decided to make it very official that we would have only ONE rule and that was: "The Baltimore Beauties would have NO RULES of any kind" and they could do as the group pleased whenever they wanted.

The BBs meet with their brown bag lunch each month and the hostess serves coffee or ice tea and a scrumptious desert. The gatherings are open to anyone who wishes to come and enjoy sewing together, trading books, recipes, stories and adventures, to crochet, knit or do absolutely nothing but visit with the others.

Hope to see you at the BBs next gathering in 2006. We still have several months available for sign-ups. May 3 and Jun 7. If you would like to hostess one of these months call Betty, 873-3525 and you will go on the calendar.
