OK ladies, just give me one second as I have to take a moment to stand up and applaud. The Opportunity Quilt is gorgeous.........thank you Mary Centre, I would have never know when I was sewing those blue strips together that you would transform them into such a beautiful border. And Jan, thank you for all you work, both on the quilt and in the quilting. I am (as I am sure everyone else is too) blown away by your talent and gift. Thank you both for sharing your talents with us.

Baby Stockings Time

Yes, it's that time of the year to start putting those baby stockings together! I have patterns for the new members, that I will bring to the September 1st meeting. I currently have eleven stockings left over from last year.

For those of you who are new and are wondering,"What are baby stockings?" Here's a quick history lesson. Back when the guild was fairly new, the ladies wanted to contribute to the community in some way. The "Baby Stocking" idea was born. They decided to make baby stockings for the newborns at NIH. The babies are placed in the stockings, and taken home in them. Over the years it has become a tradition at NIH to have the babies go home in a stocking. The new mom's look forward to receiving one of our stockings! The stockings are hung around the OB Unit and the mom's get to choose a stocking. The stockings are given out during the holidays, from Thanksgiving to December 31st.

Please decorate the stockings anyway you choose. It can be totally decked out, or can be kept simple. What ever you would like to do. Ragtime, applique (your choice),americana, polar fleece, cammo, felt (put a cotton lining in), pieced, etc... The list can go on and on! Stumped for ideas? Just give me a call!

The stockings are due to me by November 21st. Please bring them to the meetings so we can share, or you can bring them to Ben Franklins, just remember to put my name on them and they will get to me. Keep up the great work ladies! Any questions, you can call me at home, 873-6957 or email me at materialgirl93514@yahoo.com. Thank you! Desi

Drawstring Case Workshop

On August 18th at 6pm I will be having a workshop on how to make drawstring case. These cases have many uses, our goal is to make some for our soldiers. They have a great need for them and we will ship each quilt with one as long as we have enough to do so.

The soldiers use them on their wheelchairs and walkers to carry their personals from one place to another. They said that they have have some in very handy. Even for those soldiers who do not use a chair or walker.

So there is a need and the pattern is very easy so come on out and lets make some. I know the soldiers will appreciate them. The case does not have to match a quilt. And this is a great way to still give to the soldier if you need something smaller to work on. If you can not make the workshop but are interested in making some of these cases, please call me and I will send you a copy the pattern......remember we can stock up on these and have them ready as we get quilts to send......

Desi will be bringing our "soldier fabric stash" fabrics collected through donations. Below is cutting instructions just in case you would like to use fabric you already have.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.....Margi Duffy 873-6147 REMEMBER OUR MEETING PLACE IS AT HIGHLANDS NOW....

The finished size of the pillow case is 20 X 22 (approx)

Main fabric = 1 strip 20" X WOF (width of fabric)
Accent fabric = 1 strip = 2.5 x WOF AND 2 strips = 2.5" x WOF
Border fabric = 1 strip 8" x WOF

Have fun pick some happy fabrics and definitely use those scraps!!! THANK YOU!!
